I thought of promises to be forever,

Till life happened,

And I learnt that 'forever' is a lie.

I thought of 'love' to be everlasting,

Till life happened,

And I learnt that 'everlasting' is a myth.

I thought of 'togetherness' to last till twilight,

Till life happened,

And I learnt that nothing in the world is permanent.

In a dystopian world

Driven solely by mundane concerns,

Practicality competes with ideologies

To gain primacy;

And narcissism emerges as the sole driving force

Behind rational human species.
